The Services are provided by the developer of Journale, hereinafter “Journale”. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and who we share it with when you use the Journale mobile app and website.
Our privacy principles
- What you post in a journal is visible only to the members of that journal.
- We do not sell your data, we do not show ads, and we do not use algorithms to decide what you see.
- You decide what you share, with whom, and when you delete it.
Information we collect
Account information. Your name, username, and phone number, and optionally a profile picture. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email address, and an account identifier from that provider. We never receive your Google or Apple password.
Content you share. The posts, images, videos, texts, comments, journals, and descriptions you publish, and the support requests you send us.
Invitations. When you invite someone, we store the name and, if you add it, the phone number you enter for that person, so they can join the journal. If you choose a person from your address book, only the contact you select is used; the app does not upload your contact list. Invitation links expire, and we store an identifier generated by the app to link an invitation to the phone that opens it.
Technical information. Basic device and connection data (such as operating system, app version, and language), a notification token so we can send you push notifications, and server logs of errors and activity used to keep the service secure and working.
How we use your information
- Provide and maintain the app: create your account, show your journals, and deliver your posts and notifications.
- Process the invitations you send.
- Keep the service secure, including preventing abuse and detecting fake accounts.
- Fix errors and improve performance.
- Communicate with you about changes or important updates.
We do not show advertising, and we do not use your information to build advertising profiles or personalized recommendations.
Who we share information with
Members of your journals see what you publish in those journals, along with your name and profile picture.
Service providers that host and run Journale on our behalf, such as our cloud database, file storage, servers, and push notification services. They may only use your information to provide those services to us.
Authorities, when the law requires it.
Your information may be stored and processed outside your country of residence, in accordance with applicable law.
Data retention and security
We keep your information while your account is active. You can edit your profile and your posts, or delete your account at any time from the app. When you delete your account, we remove your profile from Journale and keep a restricted internal record of it for security, abuse prevention, and legal purposes. Posts you published are not deleted automatically: you can delete them before deleting your account, or ask us to delete them. You can also request a copy of your data, or the full deletion of your data, by writing to us.
We use technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit, access controls, and activity monitoring.
Children
Journale is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as Colombia’s Law 1581 of 2012, the GDPR, or the CCPA, including the rights to access, correct, delete, object to, restrict, and port your data. You may exercise these rights by writing to support@journale.app.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy. We will communicate relevant changes through the app or by email, and update the effective date above.
